And as with the Roman Senate of antiquity, the word Senate itself comes from the Latin word that means old. And back in the 18th century, a 30-year-old was considered old. was the minimum age. You had to be 30 as opposed to 25 for the House of Representatives. And to provide some insulation from popular pressure, the framers of the Constitution said that Senators can serve six years as opposed to the two years for the House of Representatives.
